Hums Aircraft - CHC's AW139 participated in successful trials of the next-stage Health and Utilization Monitoring System (HUMS) developed by Leonardo Helicopters and Skytrac. HUMS data helped improve aircraft reliability.
Leonardo Helicopters (Booth C3225) has partnered with Skytrac to implement the next-stage Health and Utilization Monitoring System (HUMS) for the AW139. This follows successful trials last year with CHC, who will continue to implement and test the system. The new system integrates key data sets from Leonardo's Heliwise HUMS analytics software into Skytrac's ISAT-200A data acquisition unit and receiver.

"Skytrac receives and monitors all HUMS parameters in real-time with the ISAT-200A," said Jan van der Heel, Skytrac's vice president of sales, adding that the company will store the complete data set and facilitate post-flight access. . "We are using real-time Heliwise analysis in the air and sending alerts to the ground to proactively alert stakeholders when thresholds are detected."

When paired with real-time monitoring and global reliable satellite communications, operators are notified of any problems that occur during flight. Wireless file upload sends full HUMS data directly to Heliwise once the aircraft returns to its home base.
"With traditional HUMS systems, critical information remains hidden until maintenance personnel physically retrieve and analyze the raw data file," explained Giovanni Cecchelli, Leonardo's vice president of customer support. “Our solution simplifies and speeds up the HUMS analysis process, so the operator can resolve issues faster and prepare for aircraft arrival. The result is improved aircraft availability, reduced uptime, improved scheduling, and ultimately new tools to manage safe deployments.
